Description

Part of the “In the Old Days” product line, these figurines depict a “pungmul” quartet also known as “nongak” (literally meaning ‘farmer’s music’). Pungmul is a Korean folk music tradition that includes drummingdancing, and singing. Most performances are outside, with dozens of players, all in constant motion. Pungmul is rooted in the dure (collective labor) farming culture. It was originally played as part of farm work, on rural holidays, at other village community-building events, and to accompany shamanistic rituals, mask dance dramas, and other types of performance.

Carefully made and painted by hand, they’re enjoyed in Korea not only as collector figurines but also as educational items for children to learn about the past.
